58 million. That's the number of Americans who have gym memberships. If you're reading this article, there's a good chance you have a gym membership too. But should you? Here are 7 signs that it's time to CANCEL your gym membership.

1. You don't use it.

This one seems obvious, right? Well, for most people, it's not. In fact a shocking 67% of gym membership owners NEVER go the the gym. So ask yourself, when is the last time you went to the gym? If like most people you answered "never," it's time to stop throwing money away and cancel your gym membership!

2. You go to the gym...sometimes.

When we look at gym members who actually use their memberships, we find that they only go to the gym about twice per week on average. That's a great start, but it's not enough. Major health organizations agree that adults should exercise daily to achieve health and fitness benefits. Are you going to the gym every day? We didn't think so - and we don't blame you. Who has time to go to the gym every day? If you find that you're not going to the gym often enough, it's time to ditch the gym!

3. You hate gyms.

Again, this one seems obvious. But there are many gym members paying for memberships even though they hate the gym. These people think gyms are the only way to exercise and lose weight, which of course is untrue. You can get a great workout in at home. So if you hate the gym, cancel your membership! There are plenty of other ways to exercise without going to the gym.

4. You're overpaying for your gym membership.

How much do you pay for your membership? The national average cost of a gym membership is $58.00/month. Even the gyms that offer cheap memberships around $10-20/month usually end up closer to the national average when you add in activation fees, enhancement fees, taxes, and other hidden fees. Gym memberships also generally require long-term contracts. So if you're overpaying for your gym membership, cancel it!

5. You only use a few pieces of equipment.

If you frequent the gym but always use the same equipment, it's time to change it up! The whole point of a gym is having access to lots of exercise equipment so that you can vary your workouts. If you don't know how to use the equipment your gym has to offer, you're wasting your money. It's time to cancel your gym membership!

6. You're a busy person.

We live in a fast paced world. If you want to exercise but you find that you're always on the run, why would you add another commute to your day? Busy people don't have time to go to the gym. If this is you, it's time to cancel your gym membership! Beginners and advanced exercisers alike can get a great workout done at home.

7. It's not working.

If you're a member of a gym, ask yourself - is it working? Have you reached your goals? If you not, then having a gym membership simply isn't working for you. And why would it? What do you really get with a gym membership? Sure, you have access to 50,000 square feet of fancy equipment, but then what? Do you have a carefully developed exercise plan to follow? Probably not. If the gym isn't working for you, it's time to cancel your gym membership!
